Major Theme Analysis:
The Horror Of Dark Human Soul.

This particular movie linked me to a lot of movies that I have watched in the past. The only dot that I was not able to connect in the past is the degree of darkness that existed in the human soul probably since the beginning of evolution....(itself!!). Suffice to say...the darkness of human soul knows no limit and knows no boundaries once you watched this movie.

In the film 'Swordfish', John Travolta asked "If you have the choice to save the whole world but at a price of killing an innocent child. Would you do it?". Stanley (the computer wizard and protagonist) in the movies answered that he have no right to make such a decision. For John Travolta, he saw something...'A Strategy to Win' and 'What it takes to win' and it involves the question of morality and authorizing the dark side of the human soul.

Simliarly, Green Baret Kurtz in the movie Apocalyse Now also shared the same vision as John Travolta in the movie. Combining the instinct of a hunter that existed in human since prehistoric times and the understanding of what is needed to win....he turned into an effective and very lethal slaying machine who attended to evil with the thought of the good for many. At least that was what he was thinking. And despite all the bad that he did, he still regarded himself as a righteous man and again it question to argue about morality.

Personally, I think human being was born with the dark side of human soul. Jealousy, selfishness, and ignorance are the most common and most rampant in the world today and I think this movie covered all of those aspects and further let us wonder...to what extend do humans willing to sacrifice in order to protect the norms of being a primal. Kurtz was sacrificed to safeguard the the overly zealous American military authorties in power. Captain Willard sacrificed his own believes in Kurtz pursuing his selfishness. And Kurtz...well he did in end sacrificed himself based on his ignorance about a lot of good things in the world. And yes...the horror of not being able to practice the good....good side of being a human. A horror....A horror indeed.

P/s: If this sort of movie genre stimulates you and you cant get enough of it, then try my personal recommendation... CALIGULA. Who is Caligula? Set in the Greek setting where orgies are a plenty. Please be warned that it is not for the faint hearted. !!! And dont say that I didnt warn you. But I assure you it will question the dark side of human soul, fantasies and reality. I also recommend the novel ..Female Caligula: Ranavolana, The Mad Queen of Madagascar
